Read how United Equine Products grew from a homemade fly repellent into a British range of horse care and grooming products.
My name is Sebastian Tarrant. I’m 20 years old and I am the owner of United Equine Products.
I started United Equine Products (formerly Fly Free Equine) as a way to earn some money to support my hobbies of mountain biking and filmmaking, but I soon fell in love with business and realised that this is what I wanted to pursue in life.
I came across the highly effective recipe for our first product because my younger sister, Alex, is an eventer. While at our previous livery yard, I was lucky enough to be given an old family recipe for fly spray. I then spent all of my pocket money on as many spray bottles and ingredients as I could. I went with my family to an event and sold out! This was the first time I wasn’t reluctant to be dragged along to one of my sister’s events.
Since then, I have continued to grow the business and have loved every minute of it.
In May 2024, I attended the world-famous Badminton Horse Trials—my first ever trade show. I managed to get a stand with less than a week’s notice, giving me just enough time to prepare my stock.
The show was an astounding success that launched the company to a whole new level. We sold out after only two days and had to drive two and a half hours back to Herefordshire to make new stock. We finished work at 2am and left to get back to Badminton at 5am!
Following the triumph at my first Badminton, I began exhibiting at more events across the country. Over the past few years, the company has gone from strength to strength.
The product range has expanded from a single fly repellent into a complete range of horse care and grooming products, designed with the needs of horses and riders in mind.
To reflect this transition from one product to a wider range, I rebranded the company from Fly Free Equine to United Equine Products. The new name represents our British brand and values, and the fact that we make more than fly repellents: we make solutions to your horse’s problems, and we do it well.
In early 2025, Major (Retd) Richard Waygood MBE, Technical Director for the British Olympic Equestrian Team and former Riding Master of the Household Cavalry, joined the United Equine Products family as a brand ambassador. It was a momentous occasion, marking the company’s growth from a small business to a recognised brand in the industry.
Our Ethos
All of our products are designed and manufactured in the UK to meet the highest standards of horse care. We aim to make our products as effective as possible, without harmful ingredients or additives, and at an affordable price.
That means no DEET and no silicone in any of our products.
We pride ourselves on creating products designed around the needs of the horse and rider.
